The three men who hide their faces and wear black costumes are called Kuroko. In kabuki, black is supposed to be invisible, so the blacks are also supposed to be invisible on stage. The kuroko move to make it easier for the actresses to perform by handing props to these actresses, putting them away, and helping the actresses change their costumes.
