Picture description

Yujo is a woman in a brothel in the Edo period.Enokoku is from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.Yujo waits for two hours without getting a customer, and in her spare time she writes a letter to a familiar customer.Maybe he's whispering a way to call the kid to deliver the letter. It would be interesting to know that the tobacco tray in this painting was also used for this purpose, as a Yujo with a guest is supposed to take her own tobacco tray to the guest's room.
