Picture description

Kitaguni refers to Yoshiwara; Goshikisumi refers to a faction.Kawagishi is a cheap brothel in Yoshiwara. It depicts a self-indulgent prostitute with a toothpick in her mouth.Utamaro also intended to give the slightest hint of a woman's glamour to the hair on the collar and the loose strands of hair.Few of Utamaro's works depict women in such a shabby manner.
