The Japanese title for this Kabuki play is Kamikake sangotaisetsu
Empress Jingu was the wife of Emperor Nakai, the 14th Emperor of Japan.
She is said to have reigned for about 70 years as the first regent from the death of Emperor Nakai to the accession of Emperor Ojin.
If she actually existed, she is believed to have lived in the latter half of the 4th century.
The role of Empress Jingu is played by the first shijaku Iwai. The role of the boatman is played by Tsuruzo Nakamura.
